Art House LA54: 元ビール工場だった建物をアーティストたちがアトリエとして使っていた。(2010)

第二次世界大戦後、ベルリンは東西に分割され、自由な往来ができない不運な時期を迎えた。しかし、1989年のベルリンの壁崩壊後、所有者不明となった建物をアーティストたちがDIYで改装し、自由に使用し始めたことをきっかけに、独自のアンダーグラウンド・カルチャーが生まれた。ヒッピーやパンクの文化にテクノが融合し、世界中からアーティストや奇人・変人が集まり、地下室や廃工場で毎夜パーティーが繰り広げられた。当時のベルリンは、ほぼ無法地帯のような巨大な遊び場だった。

しかし、90年代後半からは、国や大企業がこれらの建物を次々と買収し、近代的な首都を目指して開発が加速。2000年代初頭まではまだ家賃も安く、アンダーグラウンド・シーンも勢いを維持していたが、2010年代に入るとベルリンは「世界で最もヒップな街」と称され、急激に人口が増加。その結果、前代未聞のスピードで家賃が高騰した。その間にも世界中からベルリン目指してくるアーティストやクリエイターは増え続け、文化・芸術はより成熟していく。

2020年代、コロナ禍を経て、家賃だけでなく物価も急上昇。かつて空き地だらけだったベルリンには新しいビルが次々と建設され、「立派な」大都市へと変貌。長らく進出を躊躇していた大資本・大企業も次々に本社や支社を構え、90年代のベルリンの面影は消え去ったかのように見える。しかし、あの時に生まれた独自のアンダーグラウンド・アートシーン――外からの新しいものを受け入れる好奇心と寛容さ、おもしろいものは自分たちで創造するというスピリットなど――は、世代が代わっても、場所ややり方を変えながら受け継がれ、今も確かに息づいている。

About the city Berlin and its art scene

After World War II, Berlin was divided into East and West, entering an unfortunate period where free movement was no longer possible. Then, after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, artists began DIY renovations of buildings whose owners were no longer known, and began using them freely, giving birth to a unique underground culture. Hippie and punk culture fused with techno, and artists, eccentrics, and weirdos from around the world gathered to party every night in basements and abandoned factories. Berlin at that time was a huge, almost lawless playground.

However, from the late 1990s, the state and large corporations began acquiring these buildings one after another, and development accelerated with the aim of creating a modern capital city. In the 2010s, Berlin was recognized as “the world's hippest city,” and its population grew rapidly. As a result, rents skyrocketed at an unprecedented rate. Meanwhile, the number of artists and creators flocking to Berlin from around the world continued to grow, further enriching and evolving its cultural and artistic landscape.

By the 2020s, following the COVID-19 pandemic, not only rents but overall living costs soared. The once vacant lots of Berlin were soon filled with newly constructed buildings, and the city evolved into a "proper" metropolis. Major corporations and investors, once hesitant to enter Berlin, finally established headquarters and branches, erasing much of the city's 1990s character.

Even so, the unique underground art scene that emerged at that time — the curiosity and openness to accept new things from the outside, the spirit of creating interesting things on one's own, etc. — continues to be passed down through generations, adapting in new ways and places. It is still very much alive today.

ベルリンで最も有名なアート・スクワットTachelesでDylan Bakkerと栗原拓也はデュオBakakuriを結成、過去15年にわたりベルリンで即興、実験音楽、ノイズミュージックを演奏してきた。

その後Many Tentacles というスタジオを設立し、毎週火曜日のMarmeladeという、実験音楽、ノイズのジャムセッションや、コンサート、様々な音楽家とのコラボレーションを経て、Bakkerと栗原は、それらの多様な経験などを有機的に結びつける非因果的連関、いわばより大きな布置へと進化した。

今回のトリオ（MDK Constellation) は、Dylan Bakker、栗原拓也、Moriaariavaの3人で構成されている。

主にモジュラーシンセサイザー、エレクトロニックギター、エフェクトを中心に、Moriaariavaのアコースティックで実験的なサウンドスケープ、そして古筝と様々な音を生み出すオブジェや小さなパーカッションを組み合わせた彼女の奏でる音楽が、この布置をより豊かなものにしている。

Carrying the heritage of WIDE SCOPE orchestra and Böse Bohnen, both founded at Berlin's most famous art squat Tacheles, Dylan Bakker and Takuya Kurihara founded duo Bakakuri and performed improvised noise music over the last 15 years in Berlin.

After establishing Many Tentacles Studio and Tuesday Marmelade noise music jam sessions, concerts and meet-ups, Bakakuri evolved into a greater constellation that organically binds together regular and irregular members of Marmelade jams on various performing occasions.

The MKD Constellation consists of Dylan Bakker, Takuya Kurihara and Moriaariava. Mostly focused on modular synthesizer sounds, electronic guitar and effects, this constellation is enriched with acoustic experimental soundscapes of Moriaariava and her musical practice which is based on combining Guzheng with various sound producing objects and small percussions.

僕は1984年生まれで、中学生の頃からギターは弾いていましたが、ライフワークとして曲を作り始めたのは大人になってからでした。2008年頃だったと思います。

そのころ僕は就職活動に失敗して無職でした。
いま思えば無職でいられるっていうのも恵まれてたなと思いますが、やっぱり憂鬱でしたね。それに何より退屈だった。ギターも、２年くらいまともに弾いてなくて。
その時は祖父母の家に住んでたんで、ご飯は３食作ってもらえてたから、食事の時間だけが楽しみで、その間の時間はひたすら求人誌をめくってたって感じでした。めぼしい求人のあるページの角を折るっていうお決まりのヤツをやるんだけど、応募はしない。今はどうかしらないけど、その時はタウンワークは週に２回発行されてて、発行日になるとコンビニに出かけていって、タウンワーク持って帰って、みたいな生活でした。

で、あんまりヒマなんで久々にギターでも弾くかっていうので、ケースから取り出して昔やってた曲を弾いてみるけど、ぜんぜん楽しくなくて。
でも他にやることもないから、適当にジャカジャカ弾いてる内にメロディが浮かんできて、「これを曲に仕上げてみたら、何日かつぶれるな」と思ったのが作曲を始めたきっかけでした。
バイトが決まるのがその年の12月で、それがバンドを組むべくギブソンのレスポールをローンで買うために始めたバイトだったはずなので、最初の曲を作ったのはその少し前、同じ年の夏ごろだったと思いますけど、作ったのはたしかクリスマスソングでした。

それから、2009年ライブデビュー。
2013年に1stアルバム『Welcome To The Twilight』を発表。
2020年に2ndアルバム『High Walk』を発表。

I was born in 1984, and although I had been playing the guitar since junior high school, it was not until I became an adult that I began writing songs as my life's work.

At the time, I was unemployed after failing to find a job.
Looking back, I feel blessed to have been unemployed, but I was still depressed. And more than anything, I was bored. I hadn't played the guitar properly for about two years.
I was living with my grandparents at the time, and they cooked three meals a day, so mealtime was the only time I looked forward to it, and in the time I had between meals, I would just flip through job magazines. I would do the usual thing of folding the corner of the page that had the most interesting jobs, but I never applied for them. I don't know if it's the same now, but at that time Town Work was published twice a week, and on the day it came out, I would go out to the convenience store and bring Town Work home.

I was so bored that I decided to play the guitar after a while, so I took it out of the case and tried to play some of the songs I used to play, but it wasn't any fun at all.
But I had nothing else to do, so while I was just playing along, a melody came to me, and I thought, "If I try to make this into a song, I can spend a few days.
It was December of that year when I got a part-time job, and I believe it was the part-time job I started in order to buy a Gibson Les Paul on loan to form a band, so I wrote my first song a little before that, in the summer of the same year, but it was a Christmas song.

Then, in 2009, I made my live debut.
Their first album “Welcome To The Twilight” was released in 2013.
Released their second album “High Walk” in 2020.

長崎県出身、2002年から作曲を始め、2009年に渡独、実兄弟テクノユニット Sub Human Brosとしてドイツ、ベルリンでの活動を経て2019年帰郷。2020年より個人名義で電子音楽家として九州北部を活動拠点に。シンセサイザーだけを使った擬似自然音景、S.V.N.S.(Synthetic Virtual Nature Soundscape)をサウンドアートとしてコンテクストに配置する事で聴覚体験を通じて人々の意識を刺激する作品を制作、新たな音との対話を提示する。モジュラーシンセサイザーを使った即興liveで国内外ジャンル分け隔てなく様々なアーティストとセッション、独自の領域を開拓していく。24年10月自身の初となるファーストアルバムを国内アンビエントレーベルMediumからリリースしている。

Born in Nagasaki, Japan, began composing music in 2002, moved to Berlin, Germany in 2009. There he worked and performed as Sub Human Bros, a techno unit of his own brother. Returned to Japan in 2019. He creates works that stimulate people's consciousness through auditory experience by placing S.V.N.S. (Synthetic Virtual Nature Soundscape), a pseudo-nature soundscape using only synthesizers, in context as sound art, and presents a new dialogue with sound.

He has been exploring his own unique field of improvisational live performance using modular synthesizers in sessions with a wide variety of artists from Japan and abroad, regardless of genre.

In October 2024, he released his first album on the domestic ambient label Medium.

実験音楽家。自身のルーツであるHIPHOPを主軸にした抽象的でどす黒いNoiseとAmbientがcollageされた BEATやDUBアプローチを駆使した演奏。

水滴と環境音のみでのLIVEや、口に咥えられたコンタクトマイクから発声するノイジーな言葉たち。Customされた大正琴からどこか懐かしい感じのする不思議なnoiseを発生させたり、Avantgardeかつ黒いHIPHOPを感じさせる独特なsound makeingは、Samplingという手法に拘り、和物のvinylやfield recordingされた環境音や波動調整音などをLOOPさせて行くminimalかつpsychedelicなBOOM BOPでありながら、時に不規則に崩されていく中で、DUB的手法での変則的な抜き差しや間など、明らかに他とは異質な、漆黒のBEAT LIVEを行っている。

兎に角。黒くpsychedelicな漢。

Experimental musician blending abstract and dark noise with ambient, beat, and dub approaches rooted in hip-hop. His live performances feature water drops, environmental sounds, and noisy words uttered from a contact mic in his mouth. His unique sound, a mix of avant-garde and dark hip-hop, uses samples from Japanese vinyl, field recordings, and wave-tuned sounds, looped and punctuated with dub-like irregularities. His minimal, psychedelic boom-bap style sets him apart in the genre, evoking a dark, otherworldly vibe.

年齢や音楽経験に関係なく、誰もが一緒に音楽を楽しむにはどうしたらよいでしょうか？

「ヒューマン・ビート・マシン」 は、その答えを形にしたワークショップです！

様々なインタラクティブ・ステーションで、参加者は体を動かしたりボタンを押したり、遊び感覚でビート、サンプル、コード、歌詞を生み出すことができます。すべてのステーションは音楽的に同期しており、参加者はハーモニーを奏でながら一緒に音楽を作ることができます。この体験を通して、参加者はお互いの音を聴くことを学び、集団で音楽を作る喜びを発見します。

SHOXXXBOXXX とは ///About SHOXXXBOXXX

2011年から2023年までベルリン・フリードリヒスハイン地区にあった、アーティストSHOXXX主宰のアトリエ・ギャラリーの名前、およびそこに集まるアーティスト達のコレクティブとアートイベント企画レーベルの名前でもある。2023年11月、アトリエの家主から家賃3倍の通知を経て突然解約される。2024年SHOXXXはベルリンを去り日本へ本帰国。SHOXXXBOXXX名義でキュレーションを続けつつ、2026年までに広島にて新・アトリエSHOXXXBOXXXをオープンするべく、現在物件探し中。

SHOXXXBOXXX was an artist-run atelier-gallery founded by artist SHOXXX in Friedrichshain, Berlin, active from 2011 to 2023. It also functioned as a collective of artists and an art event label. In November 2023, due to a sudden rent increase of three times the original price, the lease was unexpectedly terminated. In 2024, SHOXXX left Berlin and permanently relocated to Japan. While continuing curatorial activities under the name SHOXXXBOXXX, she is currently searching for a space in Hiroshima, aiming to open a new SHOXXXBOXXX atelier by 2026.

Radical Dualism（ラディカル・デュアリズム）はFrancesco Mancoriによるプロジェクトで、今回はミュージシャンKuriharaとコラボレーションという形でパフォーマンスが行われます。

このプロジェクト「Radical Dualism（ラディカル・デュアリズム）」は、私たちが物事を単純な対立構造で捉えがちなことに疑問を投げかけます。複雑な現実を二つの極に分けてしまうことで、表面的な意味や幻想的な秩序にとらわれてしまうのです。

作品はコンピューターが生成する対話型ドローイングや音と映像を組み合わせたライブパフォーマンスとして展開されます。アルゴリズムはリアルタイムで変化し、人と機械が関わり合うことで新たな表現が生まれます。

この抽象的な表現は、現実の形に縛られず、純粋な造形として存在します。それは、抽象の持つ力を探り、新たな美の形を追求する試みでもあります。

Radical Dualism by Francesco Mancori, feat. Kurihara (sound)

This project, that goes under the name of "Radical Dualism", is an invitation to reflect on the tendency towards polarisation, the reduction of the complexity of reality, the regressive tendency of thought towards a dichotomous vision, towards the categorisation of binary oppositions in an illusory order and superficial meaning.

Generative interactive drawings or audiovisual live performance, a form of human–machine interaction. In this process algorithms are modified while running by using interactive programming and patching environments. These abstract forms have become free of their logical content, compositions with a high degree of independence from visual references in the world, in the quest for the purity of abstraction as a clear aesthetic practice.

1982年生まれ。2004年に多摩美術大学絵画学科油画専攻を卒業後、イギリスでデザインを学び、2006年よりドイツ・ベルリンを拠点にアーティストとして活動。ベルリンでは自身の創作に加え、キュレーションやアートディレクションも手がけ、多様なプロジェクトを展開した。2018年より拠点を福岡に移し、「われたメガネ峰太郎」「ばかおばけ」「うんこみねたろう」などの名義でも活動し、個展・グループ展を精力的に行っている。

Born in 1982, he graduated from Tama Art University in 2004, studied design in England, and has worked as an artist based in Berlin since 2006. In Berlin, he curated and art-directed various projects while pursuing his own creative work. In 2018, he relocated to Fukuoka, where he continues to hold solo and group exhibitions under various names, such as “Wareta Megane Mine-taro,” “Baka Obake,” and “Unko Minetaro.”

「現在の私の制作スタイルは、福岡の地元アーティストたちの影響を受けながら形作られています。彼らとの関わりの中で生まれた表現は、私自身の創作の軸となり、地域に根ざしたアートの多様性とその広がりを探るきっかけとなりました。

今回、ベルリンの友人との繋がりの中で、私を形成する重要な要素として、福岡のアーティストたちとの合作を提示します。異なる文化圏の間に生まれる対話を通じて、ローカルな表現がグローバルな視点の中でどのように響き合うのかを探求し、新たな芸術の可能性を模索します。

この作品は、福岡とベルリンという二つの異なる都市の感性が交差し、共鳴する場として機能します。地域性を超えた創造の流れが、新たな対話を生み出すことを願っています。」

“My creative style is shaped by Fukuoka's local artists, whose influence has become the foundation of my work. This collaboration with Fukuoka artists highlights my connection with Berlin friends, exploring how local expressions resonate globally. The piece embodies the intersection of Fukuoka and Berlin sensibilities, transcending regional boundaries to foster a new artistic dialogue. Through this, I aim to uncover fresh possibilities in the fusion of cultures.”

1983年、ニュージーランド生まれ。ベルリン在住のスクリーンプリンター、ミュージシャン、コラージュアーティスト。

2019年、ベルリン・ミッテのHaus Schwarzenbergにプリントスタジオ兼ショップMany TentaclesをMoraariavaとともに共同設立。以前はフリードリヒスハインのコレクティブVetomatのスクリーンプリンターであり、Widescope Experimental（アートハウスTacheles）のメンバーであった。2021年からMany Tentaclesで毎週開催されている実験的音楽セッションるMarmeladeを主催している。

Co-founder with Maria Cukor aka Moraariava in 2019 of print studio and shop Many Tentacles in Haus Schwarzenberg, Berlin Mitte. Previously screenprinter at Vetomat, a Friedrichshain collective, as well as member of experimental music sessions with Widescope Experimental (Tacheles Art House) and Marmelade, a weekly session at Many Tentacles since 2021.

ハンドカットペーパーコラージュシリーズ（2024）

このハンドカットコラージュ作品シリーズは、あちこちで見つけた新しい・古い素材を組み合わせて2024年に制作された。瞑想、触覚、バランス、行動の小さな行為。ベルリンの蚤の市や路上の「For Free」ボックスは素晴らしい素材源だ。適切なカットとフィットを見つけることは、作り手に落ち着きと意識をもたらし、願わくば見る人にもそうであってほしい。

Hand Cut Paper Collage 2024 - Various sizes and Dimensions

These new hand cut paper collages are made during the year 2024 using a combination of found materials old and new, and screen printed papers. Tiny acts of meditation, tangibility, balance and action. Berlin Flea Markets and 'For Free' boxes on the streets are a wonderful source of material. Finding the right cut and fit brings calm and consciousness to the creator, hopefully to the viewer too.
