“Goodbye Atelier SHOXXXBOXXX” / The Story behind atelier closure

It has been a year 😳 since Atelier SHOXXXBOXXX (2011-2023 Berlin) was closed. And it has been 9 months since it moved to Hiroshima ✈️
Here I’d like to announce the followings:

“Goodbye Atelier SHOXXXBOXXX” by MARX

October 27, 2024 Johannes Marx, who was a member of the atelier, releases a single “Goodbye Atelier SHOXXXBOXXX” under the name of his collective MARX – an emotional tribute to the loss of their longtime creative space. The single addresses the gentrification in Berlin and the loss of spaces for art and community. The accompanying music video tells the story of the atelier in a comic-style aesthetic, capturing how vibrant it once was.

Dear friends in Berlin,
in the end of January we move to Hiroshima, Japan, after 18 years life in Berlin… Thank you for sharing time with us!
This is our farewell party. Hope to see you there!! We are gonna do also a Japanese hot pot session there, so you are welcome to bring your own ingredients if you have any ideas :-)

We vacated our atelier Lehmbruckstrasse…

Twelve years of history came to an end.
We cleaned out and emptied the room (it was a hardcore work…!!) and returned the keys last Wednesday.
When I saw the empty room, I was a little sad because it reminded me of all that has happened since I moved in :-o
But this was only the end of one chapter, I cannot be sad because I/we will continue on to the next project :-)
Please keep an eye out for the upcoming projects in Japan and hopefully world-wide! I will announce updates on this website.

Here I would like to say once again: thank all of you for your support, participation, spending time together with me and Atelier SHOXXXBOXXX!!!

Es gibt auch noch einige Kunstwerke (Puppen, T-shirts, Beutel, Buttons, Comics, usw.) von SHOXXX zu verkaufen :-)

Kommt auch einfach auf eine Tasse Tee vorbei :-)

This interactive installation disrupts the line between the audience and artists. We want everyone to contribute to the music without the need of any musical knowledge. We’ve developed several interactive stations where groups of people can trigger sounds and become part of the musical performance. We also have developed a way to guide the various groups so all the elements can come together and at least sometimes come together in harmony.

About SHOXXX
SHOXXX is a Japanese-born visual and performing artist currently based in Berlin. Her hand-sewn fabric objects are vibrant, eccentric, and playfully challenge the notion of art as a luxurious item.
In 2011 she founded her own atelier-studio SHOXXXBOXXX where her creativity has flourished. Since then, she also has supported the emergence of new art by hosting a variety of events such as exhibitions and concerts at her studio space.
In 2013, she established the art and music collective “Puppe’n Mucke”, known for their unique trashy electro pop punk performances wearing larger-than-life puppet costumes created by SHOXXX. She also developed live analog animation performance with original stories in 2009. Through her installations and performances, SHOXXX invites audiences into her fantasy world, sparking their sense of adventure and imagination.
The project “SHOXXXBOXXX Live Dream”, initiated with Johannes Marx in 2020, has added various elements such as live animation, puppet theater, DIY workshops, and collaborations with guest artists to create an art show that goes beyond mere a live stream.
